Last updated September 2026. This page explains what data Summit Goat collects and why.
Summit Goat is a small, independent trekking guide. We collect as little as we can: there are no accounts, and nothing you type into the readiness quiz, the gear calculator or the trip planner is sent to us. Questions about this page: [email protected].
What stays in your browser
A few things are saved in your own browser's local storage so they are there next time: your light or dark theme choice, your packing-list ticks and your gear-calculator choices. They never leave your device, and you can clear them at any time in your browser settings. We don't use them to track you.
Visitor statistics
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies and does not track you across websites. It records things like which pages are read, the referring site, the country and the browser type, in aggregate. Our host, Cloudflare, also processes standard request data (such as IP address and browser) to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
Maps, fonts and other outside services
- Fonts are served from this site; your browser doesn't contact Google Fonts.
- Map tiles on trek pages load from the map providers you choose in the layer menu: OpenTopoMap, OpenStreetMap, Esri (satellite), Waymarked Trails. Like any website, these providers receive your IP address when your browser requests their tiles. Our own terrain map and 3D view load only from this site.
- Links to booking, travel and shopping sites take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies.
Affiliate links
Some links to retailers, tour and travel companies are affiliate links. When you click one, that company may set a cookie on its own site so that we receive a commission if you book or buy. We don't receive your name or payment details. See our affiliate disclosure.
Advertising
We don't show ads yet. If we add them, this page will be updated first, and visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland will be asked for consent before any personalised ads are shown.
Why we process data, and for how long
Visitor statistics and security logs are processed because we have a legitimate interest in running a safe, working website. The newsletter is based on your consent. We keep newsletter addresses until you unsubscribe, and we don't sell or rent personal data to anyone.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe, the UK GDPR or US state laws such as the CCPA), you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Write to [email protected]. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
This site is written for adults planning treks and is not directed at children under 16.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and its date.
